If you did not read my previous two posts concerning the activity of Satan against you, then please check them out so that you can properly celebrate what is written in today’s post. I purposefully left a little time between these posts so that you would really consider the reality of your life being in the crosshairs of the most evil being in existence. He is very real, very active and very experienced in bringing down the lives of people who never thought they would fall prey. Today, however, I share the overriding truth of Jesus Christ and His absolute domination of Satan and how that, in Christ, you also have been made an authorized overcomer. Yes, regardless of the level of personal weakness that you sense, you have been made triumphant. The weapons of Satan hold no valid authority over you. Temptation is very real, but not ultimate. Traps and assaults, oppression and confusion, lies and warfare are certainly operative in his schemes for you. But the Word says that you have an unction, a hyper-conquering anointing from God (1 John 2:20, 27). The Greek word which is translated “unction” indicates a smearing. The touch of God on you, the covenant spoken over you, the promises made unto you – these are all war-paint, my friend.
So please remember this:
1 John 3:8-9 – “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.” God the Son became human so as to act as our kinsmen (our human representative), and to destroy the dominion of Satan over mankind. Jesus didn’t merely put Satan on a short leash. He neutered him. He is active and threatening but he no longer has authority over anyone who will rest in the authority of Jesus Christ.
Colossians 2:15 – “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in Him.” This verse amplifies the one above in detailing that, upon the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the entire demonic host was also made subject unto the authority and power of God. What the human eye cannot see is that the intimidating, mysterious armies of hell have been openly shamed in defeat by the Son of God. They seem to know better than most of us how defeated they are, so they rage against us with exposed tactics of deceit and fear. To whom will we listen? The victorious Savior or the lying, shamed enemy?
Hebrews 2:14 – “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil.” Death was Satan’s trump card. He dominated mankind from Eden’s implosion all the way to Christ’s resurrection. Jesus took the full brunt of Satan’s biggest gun – Death – and then walked away from it triumphantly. Satan had dropped his most destructive weapon, and Jesus Christ openly took it from him. The enemy has nothing greater left to wield against us. We need to believe this. If his greatest weapon failed, why should we worry over his lesser weapons which he seeks to use against us?
Romans 16:20 – “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet…” This is the great promise for which we all long. There is actually coming a moment in front of us when we will witness the final destruction of this one named Satan. His fear will be extinguished. His lies will be no more. His seduction will be impotent. His demons will cower. Jesus Christ will proclaim the final sentencing of his long awaited judgment, and we will see the rebellious angel of light shrink and recoil in unholy horror as His Majesty, King Jesus, casts him into his appointed place. In that moment this prophecy of Isaiah 14:16-17 will have its final fulfillment as the redeemed look upon the defeated devil: “Those who see you will stare at you and ponder over you: ‘Is this the man who made the earth tremble, who shook kingdoms, who made the world like a desert and overthrew its cities, who did not let his prisoners go home?”
Isaiah says that Satan did not let his prisoners go home while he was allowed to rule. Christians have been saved from his rule, and we ARE NOT his prisoners. We will be in our home forever with the Redeemer, the King, the Savior. We will be eternally elevated. We will experience everlasting vindication. Our glorified eyes will behold the sentencing and execution of every single demon who ever plotted and fought against us. This is the inheritance of the saints. This is the promise of God. It is going to happen and you will stand forever as an approved witness of this element of God’s eternal justice. Yes, we will see the destroyer fully destroyed.
Remind yourself of this today, and go out in the power of God’s immeasurable grace, boundless love, available might and holy authority. You have been smeared with war-paint, and the enemy does not want for you to believe this.
