Mark 8:18 – “Having eyes do you not see, and having ears do you not hear? And do you not remember?”
These words from Jesus prophetically instruct us in three ways: about the future, about the present, and about the past.
FUTURE – “Having eyes, do you not see?”; are you observing what is happening and to where it points? The convergence of things happening in both the spiritual realm and the natural realm are aligning with biblical prophecy. Nobody can pinpoint the exact moment, but some time ago, we stepped into a season that will never return to normal. Everything that is occurring is making it plain that the stage is being set for the final showdown between good and evil that precedes the Second Coming of Christ. Global alliances, military conflicts, governmental and industry titans working together to take control of the human population…do you not see these things? Additionally, great moves of the Holy Spirit are happening. God is exposing corruption in the Church, and He is engaged in a deliberate course to purify His bride. The process that ultimately concludes in the separation of the wheat and the tares is already in motion. Do you not see? A holy and necessary division between light and darkness is happening. Are you looking at the horizon and observing that we are moving rapidly towards a climactic conclusion to a long chapter in the history of humanity? Jesus wants you to see what is happening so you will be ready when He comes again.
PRESENT – “Having ears, do you not hear?” The most important question that we need to be able to answer right now is, “What is God saying to His people?” Have you considered that the tactic of the enemy presently prioritizes bombarding you with ceaseless noise and unending myriads of voices? The dragon knows that the Dove is speaking, and he cannot bear the thought of you locking in on what is being communicated from Heaven’s throne. The roar of wickedness, hostility, fear, and offense is deafening too many of us. God is releasing instructions to those who consecrate themselves, pray with fasting, disengage from unprofitable online chatter, and who choose silence over the need to constantly be speaking (or posting on social media). You have the capacity to hear what God is speaking, and it is no luxury that you can afford to miss. He is speaking about what is coming. He is speaking about how to prepare. He is speaking of sin, righteousness, and judgment to come. He is speaking strategies to Church leaders. He is speaking prophetic details to those who are positioned to receive. He is offering us wisdom in the present moment. He is telling us how to prepare, how to protect our loved ones, and how to endure the circumstantial shaking that is very close to coming. He is warning many about the low level of oil in their unexamined lamps. Yes, Jesus is speaking in the present, but other noises and voices are being prioritized daily by those who refuse to deny the diabolical distractions delivered by the devil.
PAST – “Do you not remember?” This question may be the most piercing of the three which are asked by Jesus in Mark 8:18. Do you not remember your covenant with Him? Do you not remember what it cost to bring you into that covenant? Have you forgotten in any way the terms of His lordship, and that you are not your own but have been bought with a price? Do you not remember His promises to you? Do you not remember His warnings about not falling in love with this life? Do you not remember the mandate to deny yourself, pick up your cross, and daily follow Him along the pathway of sacrifice and self-denial? Do you not remember the things from which He called you out? Why are some continuing to dabble in darkness and meddling in mixture? If we forget these things, and many other things just like them, we are living in an extremely hazardous deception. The Bible is filled with warnings about the dangers of forgetting. The illusion that many people who profess Jesus as Savior are living under is wholly incompatible with true salvation. They either never understood, or they have forgotten. Do you not remember Matthew 7:21-23…the most alarming verses in the Gospels? Many are living as if they no longer remember the promises over them and the power within them. They no longer remember the flame of Holy Spirit and the Rock of Christ. They no longer remember that He who cannot lie has declared that they are new creations, with the old passing away and all things becoming new. Friends, look backward and remember. Having done this, you are aligned and able to steadfastly walk out the life in Christ you have received.
