Father,
How strong was my sense of You being at work when I arose this morning. You have trained me to try to get up early each day but I have never risen earlier than You. While so many of us have Sundays that are filled with ministry, responsibilities to others and hearts bursting with anticipation, You are the constant on every morning. We sense Your smile this morning because You have no need to rush. There are no question marks that You add when it comes to writing down what You will do today. You are perfectly clear on what You will accomplish and whom You will use to do so. Musicians and singers will run the risk of being consumed with their pitch and their timing – You will simply sing. Preachers and teachers will pour over notes and illustrations they intend to use, wondering if the messages and lessons will come out rightly – You will simply speak the truth in love. Servants will move from task to task, hoping to keep pace and not to fall behind the demands – You will simply take care of Your own business in a way that opens Your glory up to those who wish to see it. More than any of us, You are at rest today and I slow down as I begin my Sunday and thank You for inviting us to enter into that rest with You. We have to acknowledge that we are not big enough, skilled enough, gifted enough or experienced enough to pull today off on our own. We don’t even want to. Yet You have made Yourself so glorious and precious to us that we do desire to give You our best. Accept the genuineness of our hearts even as it is accompanied with the weakness of our hands. You have made it about us so that we are free to make it all about You. I intend to enjoy this day in You and with You. Thank You, Abba, for this blessed rest.
Amen
