Gracious Abba,
How blessed we are to arise on the first Sunday of a new year. You did not promise any of us that we would have the opportunity to advance into 2015. None of us were promised the health and ability to lift our heads off of last night’s pillows and to have clothes to place on our bodies before we entered transportation that would carry us to a place where we can freely sing Your praises, hear Your word taught and love on Your other children. We might have presumed that this would be the case but we cannot claim that the specifics were promised to us – so, in essence, today is a present from You. Father, I believe that, because I am alive and awake this morning, You have a reason for it all. I’m unsure at this hour what the big idea of today is but I know that it is Your gift to me so it is therefore infused with purpose and meaningfulness. I want to tap into what you have prepared for today. I want to taste of that beautiful dish that You have concocted with all the various ingredients which You set aside ahead of time. I want to drink in what You pour out and so I am committing this morning to live intentionally with my eyes opened. I am looking for You today. I am seeking to trace Your hand and to behold Your countenance. When I close my eyes I am choosing rather to listen for Your voice so I can rest in what You have to say. You are already speaking words of ease and rest to my soul. You are already smiling over what my heart tends to fret about – appointments, needs, expectations, duties and responsibilities. It is amazing to me that I always sense Your calm togetherness – even when my own heart is not as calm and nowhere near as together. It is good to be the child of such a strong and capable Papa. To me, this is the first Sunday of a new year full of opportunity and hope. To You it is simply another humanly measurably blip of eternity which is under Your feet and interwoven within Your grand plan. Perhaps that is what You should be praised for this morning: the reality that You actually have a supreme plan that includes (but is not limited to) whatever unfolds on this day. Yes, I will give You the glory for being the Sovereign King over all. Today is yours. Each day is yours. We are yours. I am yours. Thank you, Father, for reminding me early that the day is not about me or any of us here. This day is to be all about You. Therefore it is a very, very good day.
I am grateful for your perceptions thismorning, they help me to see more clearly what our main focus needs to be every morning and every day. Thank you. I hope that you do get to taste of the great things God has in store today for you!
