“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
Trouble in our lives has a powerful ability to simplify our focus. For the last few weeks as my family has endured tragedy, fear, pain, anxiety and loss of control I have found that I am drawn back to some of the basic bible truths which helped to shape me as a new Christian. It seems that we outgrow these verses as they become so familiar to us. We forget some foundational elements to our faith and, when trouble finds us, we may discover that we’ve not been walking as securely as we presumed. King David made the following confession:
“Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word….It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes.” – Psalm 119:67,71
The man after God’s own heart declared that he needed a little trouble in his life to clarify his life-path. I’m not sure any of us should presume that we are exempt from this part of life under the sun. A little trouble is a good teacher. Are you still showing up for class?
We are all back home under one roof this morning. That was a goal we had a few weeks ago and it has now become reality. There are many other steps along the road to full recovery and I’m glad that I’m not out in front. It’s good to be a follower – eyes trained on the sometimes-silent Shepherd. He’s teaching me not to need explanations but, rather, to treasure His promises. We can do that today as He leads us.
So can you.
We are glad you are home there is no place on earth like it. Thank you for reminding us to lean not to our own understanding and to trust God when trials come our way. Our deepest sympathy in the passing of Amy’s Mother. We are so glad that you have the blessed assurance of knowing she is with Our Lord and Saviour today.
Praise God!!! I am so happy for Amy and all of you.
Thank you for reminding us how important is to let our Lord guide us in every situation. All we have to do is to delight ourselves in Him, and He will give us the desires of our hearts!
I am praying for all of you daily.
Pastor Jeff Lyle, I just wanted to say thank you for allowing God, our Lord Jesus, and the Holy Spirit to speak through you. I was just recently just scanning through my television channels and stop to listen to you preach one Sunday morning. Wow! God just begin to speak mightlly through you to me and all i could do was cry. I just recently heard of the tragedy with your wife and mother-in-law. I have never met you all, but as your sister in Christ I automatically begin to pray and will continue. I hope and pray one day my family will meet your family at meadowbrook. God’s blessings, healing, and restoration to you and your family.
Praise the Lord!! Any place away home is gratefully left behind. Coming home is a blessing always. It is a safe place to snuggle down and just be yourself. Thanking God for His blessings and praying for all of you, Carolann and Dan
What a marvelous sermon that we need badly in our lives. We accept everything from our Heavenly Father but I always beg Him not to put us in trials that we cannot endure. My soul always feel that I am a much weaker person than many other believers and I always feel that God knowing my weakness will give us lighter trials.God is merciful and in His mercy and grace He disciplines us for our spiritual prosperity. We are praying always for Amy’s complete recovery soon and we are praying for you and the kids.Pray for us,
Sam & Zack.
