Today is Memorial Day in the United States and I really wanted to take just a moment to say thank you to all of those who have served in our nation’s military. The United States Of America came forth from the womb of war and has been regularly engaged in battle since then. This beloved country is a wonderful place to live, a land of opportunity and a place that has enjoyed a rich history of God’s gracious blessing and prosperity. We see the hand of a sovereign God behind all that has comprised our national heritage. When God works, He most often does so through human agency and we would be foolish if we failed to recognize that some of those whom He has utilized have been our nation’s military men and women. We owe them incredible thanks.
“Pay to all what is owed to them…respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.” – Romans 13:7 {ESV}
Our liberty and prosperity have cost many the highest price. Protection of our own freedoms and defense of the helpless abroad has been the duty of those who have served in the armed forces. Tyrants have been conquered. Lofty principles have been defended unto the death. Creeds and policies that have been derived from God’s Holy Word have been established through our soldiers, seamen and airmen. Though the tides are turning in our contry and many have fallen prey to the limp-wristed philosophies which declare that nothing is worth fighting for, this nation of ours is still the greatest place on earth to live. As long as the God of Heaven sees fit to bless us, we will enjoy the goodness of life within our borders. Those borders and the goodness within will continue to be protected by sacrificial men and women who commit their lives to the defense of the United States of America. You and I owe each of them – past and present – an unspeakable debt of gratitude. May they and the price so many of them have courageously paid be strong within our hearts this day.
Valor still exists. A hearty thanks to our military men and women who remind us of this in the highest way.
