About this time last year I was preparing for an overseas trip to Scotland. Missionary Nathan Young, Pastor Scott Kay and I planned, prayed and eventually packed for this week-long ministry endeavor which would allow me, as Nathan’s friend and pastor, to experience the land of his calling.
The trip was enjoyable and exhausting with long days of foot travel beneath ceaseless Scottish rain. The sights were amazing and the Christian history that we encountered was worth the entire trip. God blessed us with great hosts who are presently serving as part of the team in Scotland that Nathan hopes to geographically join in 2012. Scott Kay and the church he shepherds are also financial and prayer supporters of the Youngs and, when we departed home to America, he shared with me an enlightened understanding of the great need in Glasgow. Perhaps no greater impact was felt for me than when Nathan and I conducted street interviews with the Glaswegians concerning their Christian history and views about the current spiritual needs of Scotland. I found the need there much greater than I had previously understood.
Below is a short video that I hope you will take time to view so that you might become, at the very least, a prayer supporter of Nathan and Krystal young. There is a great need for financial support of their ministry as well; God has called the Youngs to plant New Testament, biblically grounded churches which will be shepherded by men trained and discipled by Nathan and others. Scotland may not sound as romanticized as villages in the rain forest or huts in the Kalahari but, I assure you, the echo of the true Gospel has greatly faded there. Meadow Baptist Church has committed a large monthly level of support to the Youngs but it will take many more to join us in this opportunity. Transforming Truth is also a monthly supporter of the Young’s ministry and I want to encourage some of you to consider this opportunity to get on board with this worthy endeavor. Missions work is some of the hardest work done for the glory of Jesus in any generation. It is increasingly challenging for modern missionaries to find the funding needed which enables them to focus on the Great Commission work overseas. We are not only stewards of God’s money and time entrusted to us…we are stewards of opportunity. If you would like to join me and Transforming Truth in prayer and financial support of the Youngs, please consider January and February as the opportune time to lock arms together for Scotland. I’ve listed some contact information for you to learn more about Nathan Young and his ministry; I can assure you with my personal endorsement that the Youngs are a tremendous investment for all of us. Let’s do what we can on the human end to ensure that they are able to begin their work in Scotland in 2012.
