Some mornings I wake up and wonder why God let me. It is not often but I must confess the occasional morning when my first thought is that I am ill-equipped to live the life assigned to me. Every now and then, before the sun rises, strong doubts arise in my heart and an unhealthy voice begins to try and whisper fear into my thoughts. On those days, I have learned to immediately call out to my great King who sits on a throne of love, justice, righteousness and truth. When the King speaks, the whispers of doubt disappear.
“Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.” – Isaiah 49:15
Every mother knows the impossibility of resisting that inner urge to meet the need of her helpless, hungry baby. Simply put, it is deeply woven into her nature to meet that child’s need. It is not simply that she must do so, is that she longs to do so. Just like her, God also loves to tend to the needs of His own children. Christian friend, our Father is not incidentally committed to you. He has powerfully obligated Himself to you according to His compassionate and loving paternity.
He is your Shepherd, you are His lamb.
He is your King, you are His citizen.
He is your Counselor, you are His favorite appointment.
God Almighty is your Father and, though your earthly father might have failed you, God is not that man, and He wants you to remember that you are His forever beloved child.
Yes, God desires to help you though all your stubborn doubts, and He is working to empower you to believe all of His promises to you. Circumstances can deceive or be misinterpreted, so you may have to hunker down and become militant against trusting in what you discern by your five natural senses. God is at work for you, in you and through you this very day. Do not slight Him today by being suspicious of His goodness. Do not deny Him your praise by doubting His current plan and how it will all work out. You can magnify Him in what you do know, what you have previously learned and what you choose to believe.
You can also trust Him tenaciously with all of the unknowns of your life today, and you can sing a new song to Him in spite of the high hills around you which are casting long shadows across your path.
You must defy your doubts by building an altar of certain praise. Despite the resistance coming against you, trust your Father and bow before His glistening throne as one who has been eternally won to His heart of grace. He is a powerful Abba who uniquely acts with the tenderness of a nursing mother.
God…forgetting you? Never.
Where I get confused is when Jesus is talking to his disciples and says — I will be with you, I will give you gifts
and etc etc. Seems like to me he is walking and talking with his disciples and promises them but not directly talking about giving their students (followers of Paul, John and etc) the gifts of the holy spirit which could be called upon us the students.
I listen to your show a lot and I am a baby christian that knows only a tiny bit—-most important to me is that Jesus shed his blood and died for us to forgive us of our sins and saved us so we could now follow Him to heaven—the only way it could be done was through His unselfish death on the cross.
There was another man who felt ill-equipped. God’s response to Moses was a simple “I will be with you.” I love that! No pep talks or other forms of “you can do it kiddo!”. Just “I will be with you.” And God’s inference is clear: “If I am with you then your limitations are of no consequence.” God is good!
