“I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you will go: I will guide you with My eye.” – Psalm 32:8
To know that the immeasurable God of the universe has declared His willingness to guide us along our way is an overwhelmingly encouraging thought. Far be it from Him to shout instruction to us from some great distance – no, He says above that He will guide us with His eye upon us. Father informs us that He will press in so closely that we will be able to discern where He is looking, what is His focus, and perhaps even what He is feeling when our eyes are locked upon His own. Are you lost today? He promises to be your personal guide. Are you lacking wisdom as you read these words? Hear the Lord saying to you that He is a glorious teacher and instructor to you. Make plans to show up in His class and you will come away with the wisdom you need from Him. He is reassuring you today that His delight is upon you and that He is proactively engaging you so that you will know the joy and wisdom of walking where He is leading.
Take care not to miss the part of this verse from the Psalms where He says to you that there is a certain way in which He will lead you. Some pathways you might choose will leave you without His endorsement or His commitment to lead you further along in those steps which He has not chosen for you. In those situations He will lead you out and away, but not further into them. He will deliver you and help you and turn you around – but He will not facilitate you going further when you have taken your eye off of Him and placed it upon the way of your own choosing. In love and wisdom, He will resist you on those pathways because they take you farther away from where His best awaits you. He will place His eye upon something better which he has for you and will wait on you until you place your own focus there. Whether further upon the blessed path or bringing you off of the wayward path, remember that God is involved this very moment on your behalf to lead you. He lifts up our focus so that we see Him foremost, and all lesser things in the revealing light of what we see in His face.
He guides you with His eye. Draw near then, and fixate upon Him. Wait for His eye to move in the direction He has determined for you. And then begin to move in that direction with trust, joy and anticipation of what is coming.
