I need to be careful about what I make it today. I can make it about results. I can make it about measurable, visible outflow. I might choose to make it about people’s responses to what is said. If I am not careful I can make it all about the music I hear, the style of teaching someone offers or the way I am treated by someone whose respect that I feel I need. It might be that I make it about convenience today and how my own desires and preferences are met. How terrible it would be if any of us attended a gathering which is completely Christ-focused, only to turn around in some way and make it me-focused. You see, it is all about Him because…
He is beautiful
He is holy
He is love
He is compassionate
He is merciful
He is wise
He is reigning
He is truth
He is power
He is restoring
He is triumphant
He is working
He is worthy
He is overcoming
He is alive
It is a humbling thought but, in a very real way, Jesus made His life’s mission all about you therefore you do not have to make your own life all about you. We are making it about Him. His purposes, His ways, His story, His redemption, His glory and His peerless name. The reality that Christ made it all about you absolutely frees us up to make it all about Him. Focus on Him. Exalt Him. Appropriately minimize everything else and maximize Him. He calls you to look up to where He is seated on the right hand of the Father so that, in all things, He will have the preeminence in your mind and heart. He calls us out of our distraction and into His awe. He both listens and speaks today but mind-grumbling and lip-complaining will drown out His voice. Refuse the possibility that your mouth would be a wellspring of that which is sweet while also becoming a sewage pipe of that which is fouled. Today He calls us up. Praise. Prayer. Shouts of joy. Proclamations of His unparalleled worthiness! Make it all about Jesus today. Make it all about Him. Fight for it. Embrace it. Let this priority pin you to do the ground no matter what else is calling your attention away.
You are making it. So make it all about Him.
Jeff, May i print this? It would be a reminder and something uplifting for my husband as he travels this week. -barb
