Abba, today there will be so many people coming to buildings around the globe in search of something from a higher plane. We are creatures of clay and it seems that we are sometimes held down by a spiritual gravity that keeps us earthbound. We need You on the highest of heights but we are not capable of climbing to where we think You are. Our culture tells us to go to a building on Sunday and that You will be there to meet with us for an hour. Father, I actually believe that You WILL be in those places, willing to meet with any and all who are seeking You with a pure heart. Yet You are also willing to meet with us in our bedrooms and bathrooms and kitchens and cars where we will spend time before we can get to one of those Sunday buildings. I want to meet You there. I want to meet You in my house and in my truck and in my office. I’m hoping for a holy ambush from You as I walk across the parking lot this morning into the building where the people will gather to sing to You, to pray to You, to learn from You, to worship You and to surrender their lives more fully to You. I want You to show everyone that You actually come outside and that they do not have to rush indoors to cram in time with You. We need a reminder that the earth itself cannot contain You, how much less the largest cathedral on the planet? I will meet You anywhere You allow, Abba.
Thank You for being so eager to meet with us. We think we want it badly but You want it even more so. We want to meet with You so often because we have such great need. You want to meet with us because You have such great love. You have called us, Jesus, to love the Father with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength. We find that our all is small but it is still our all – and You receive that love from us with no rebukes, no criticism, no disgust that we do not have more to offer. You are such a faithful, kind and merciful God and You have loved us out of our reluctant fear and escorted us into such a beautiful place with You. Thank You, Bridegroom. Thank You for taking us into the secret place and loving us as we are. Your grace and kindness and patience is changing us and we delight in the work of Your perfecting hand.
So, Abba, for those who are rushing to a building to meet with You today because that is the place where they assume that You meet with people… I know You will graciously stoop and meet them. You will welcome them to encounter You even though no building is needed for that to happen. Thank you for bearing with us in our folly. When we arrive at the place of gathered worship today, please stroke our hearts with powerful and surprising encounter. Please bowl us over with Your presence. We turn over the conductor’s baton to You and welcome You to orchestrate it all. We do not wish for You to be in the audience observing our ministry – we call upon You to be presiding over it all so that we may behold and experience what it is that You desire to do among Your gathered children today. Move, thou Mighty King! Speak, thou Eternal Prophet! Blow, thou Wind of Heaven! Ignite, thou Flame of Pentecost! Heal, thou Greatest Physician! Restore, thou Divine Counselor!
We look for You today, Abba. We magnify You today, Jesus. We wait on You today, Holy Spirit.
Our eyes are upon You.
“Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-29.
